Along with jogging, walking has become a popular exercise and outdoor sport. As I drive in the city, I often see individuals and entire families enjoying a walk in the park or in the forest preserves. When driving on the highway, I sometimes wave to “walking parties” heading for some distant rendezvous.
The Christian life can be compared to a walk. The Christian life begins with a step of faith. But that step leads to a walk of faith. Walking suggests progress, and we must make progress in the Christian life.
But we must be sure to “walk in the light” (1 John 1:5-7), for the enemy has set traps and created detours to catch us. Of course, at the end of life’s walk, we will step into the very presence of the Lord.
Paul urges: “Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love” (Ephesians 4:1-2).
Also: Romans 6:4; Ephesians 4:17; 5:2, 8; 2 Corinthians 5:7; Philippians 3:13-16.
Action assignment: Analyze how well you are walking in relation to what you have just read. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Talk to God about your Christian walk.
