The people of Israel in Moses’ day failed to claim their promised inheritance and thus were forced to wander about aimlessly in the wilderness. It is impossible to stand still in the Christian life; we either go forward and claim God’s blessing, or we go backward and flounder without a goal.
I once heard a preacher say, “Most Christians are ‘betweeners.’ ”
“What do you mean by that?” I asked.
“They are between Egypt and Canaan—out of the place of danger, but not yet into the place of rest and rich inheritance,” he replied. “They are between Good Friday and Easter Sunday— saved by the blood but not yet enjoying newness of resurrection life.”
Are you a “betweener”?
Verse for today: “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:14, NIV).
Also read: Joshua 24:15; Philippians 3:12-15; James 1:5-8.
Action assignment: List in one column five or six things that reflect goodness, and in another column the same number of things that are evil. Do you ever find yourself crossing the line of demarcation in your everyday life?
Commit your failure to God and ask Him to help you “press toward the mark.”
