Paul saw himself as a priest at the altar, offering up to God the Gentiles he had won to Christ.
They were a “spiritual sacrifice" to the glory of God. Even his preaching of the Gospel was a
“priestly duty.”
This insight into ministry certainly adds dignity and responsibility to our service. It was
important that the priests offer God only the best.
Paul was the minister of Jesus Christ; he preached “The Gospel of God,” serving in the power of
the Holy Spirit, who sanctified his ministry. What a privilege, and yet what a responsibility to be
the servant of the Triune God, winning the lost to Jesus Christ!
Soul-winning is a priestly ministry, a sacred obligation. Thus we must serve the Lord with
dedication and devotion, just as the priest in the temple did.
Verse for today: “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy
priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5, NIV)
Read: 1 Peter 2:9; Malachi 1:6-14; James 5:20; Proverbs 11:30,

Action assignment: As a Christian you have the privilege of coming directly to God, as did the
high priest of ancient Isreal Have you ever thanked Him for this opportunity? Have recognized
the responsibility that goes along with the privilege sharing the Good News of salvation with
others? If not, what keeps you from doing so? Take time now and ask God to give you the heart
of a soul-winner.
