A seminary professor once told me, “Try to explain election, and you may lose your mind. But
explain it away—and you may lose your soul!”
We will never on earth understand the total concept of divine election, but let’s notice some obvious
facts about it:
1. Salvation begins with God. God planned salvation before He created man.
2. Salvation involves God’s love. His love made Calvary a reality.
3. Salvation involves faith. We are saved by believing God’s Word.
4. Salvation involves the Trinity.
As far as God the Father is concerned, I was saved when He chose me in Christ before the world
began. As far as God the Son is concerned, I was saved when He died for me on the cross. As far as
God the Holy Spirit is concerned, I was saved one Saturday night in May 1945, when I heard the
Word and trusted Jesus Christ.
At that moment, the entire plan fell together and I became a child of God. If you had asked me that
night if I was one of the elect, I would have been speechless. At that time I knew nothing about
election. But the Holy Spirit witnessed in my heart that I was a child of God.
5. Salvation changes the life.
Those whom God chooses, He changes. This does not mean they are perfect, but they are possessors
of a new life that cannot be hidden.
From God’s Word: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift
of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Find and read: John 15:16; Ephesians 1:4; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Romans 5:8.
Action assignment: Find the song, “I’m a Child of the King,” and make it your song for today. Thank
God for His love that has reached you and made you His.
