Daily Strength Blog

While preaching for a week at a summer conference, I noticed that my rechargeable razor was losing
power. One morning, in fact, it operated so slowly that I was convinced it was broken. By evening it
had picked up speed again.
A few minutes’ investigation revealed the problem: I had plugged the razor into a socket that was
controlled by a wall switch. When my wife had the desk lamp on, my razor was storing up power,
when the light was off, the razor received no power.
That incident taught me a spiritual lesson: It is easy to trust a source of power by force of habit,
without checking to see if the switch is on. Paul was praying that his friends might “have the switch
on” and, by their faith, receive the power needed to endure suffering and glorify God.
If we believe God, we will receive His power in our lives. We cannot be victorious in tribulations if
we only trust ourselves; we can be victorious through trusting Him.
Take it with you: “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth
strength” (Isaiah 40:29).
Read: Isaiah 40:30-31; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 1:18-19; 2 Corinthians 12:9; 2 Timothy 1:7.
Action assignment: Thank God for the power He gives you, and by faith receive power to obey
Christ today.
