FORGET ME NOT
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under
solemn oath, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with
you."
Most of us forget much quicker than we remember. It's easy to identify with the person who said,
"I write down everything I want to recollect. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to
recall what I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it on."
As Moses and the Israelites prepared to leave Egypt, they exhumed the remains of Joseph and
took them along. These bones were a reminder of Joseph's faith. It was his trust in God's future
deliverance that prompted him to make his kinsmen swear they would not leave his bones
behind. Such faith is worthy to be remembered.
While we don't want to fixate on the past, we don't want to forget it either. We can learn valuable
lessons from remembering the way God worked in the lives of His saints who preceded us. They
remind us, for example, of God's faithfulness.
We find encouragement for our own struggles when we see the steadfast love He demonstrated
toward them. They also remind us of God's holiness. When our spiritual ancestors disobeyed
God, they faced His holy correction.
Is there someone from your family who needs to be remembered? Perhaps you know some
elderly saint, homebound or restricted to a nursing home, who could bless your life by his or her
memories. Before your days all become the past, take some time to remember the past. It may be
one of the greater blessings of your present.
WE CANNOT RELIVE THE PAST, SO LET'S MAKE SURE WE REMEMBER IT.
