EXODUS 5:22

So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people?

Why is it You have sent me?”

Many people find driving at night disorienting. Routes that are effortlessly navigated during the

daylight hours seem twisted and turned around at night. Landmarks that are readily recognized

before the sun goes down take on a new appearance in the dark. It is easy for these people to get

confused and begin to doubt if they are even going in the right direction.

Moses experienced a similar time of confusion and doubt. He became disoriented in the midst of

spiritual darkness and could not see God’s direction. It seemed the more he called for Pharaoh to

let his people go, the more difficult their lives became.

Rather than letting the people go free, Pharaoh laid even heavier burdens upon them. Instead of

being a blessing to the Israelites, Moses started to think he was a curse. He began to doubt if he

had clearly understood what God intended for him to do.

Perhaps you are experiencing that same confusion today. You believe you are doing what God

wants you to do, but the situation is getting worse instead of better. If so, do what Moses did. He

went back to God for clarification and assurance. He asked, “Why is it You have sent me?”

It never hurts to recheck our spiritual directions. Go back to the Bible and see if your actions are

consistent with the Word. Seek God in prayer and ask Him to reveal if you’ve perhaps

misunderstood His desire for you.

If you find that you are missing the mark, ask God to help you make whatever corrections are

necessary. If you’re on target, continue to follow Moses’ example-keep moving forward and trust

God with the results.
