Now therefore, go and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say:

Walter Winchell defined a friend as “one who walks in when others walk out.” But there are times when even proven friends can’t help us. Sometimes we’re far from our friends in a distant city and we need help. When we sit beside the deathbed of a loved one and our friends try to comfort us. often they can’t actually help. No matter where we are or how difficult our experi ences, however, God can help US.

Moses faced the overwhelming task of confronting Pharaoh and demanding the release of the Hebrew people. Everything was on the line: his leadership, his integri ty his life as well as the future of the nation of Israel. Surely those who cared about him sympathized with the situation, but none could help. Only God could say, “I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”

God’s people always have found that when everything else is taken from them— all their loved ones and possessions are gone God still is “a very present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1, cf. Heb. 4:16). In the biography of Corrie ten Boom, she describes her thoughts after the death of her sister Betsie in a concentration camp: “I was not afraid to die. The valley of the shadow of death had no terror for me. Jesus had carried me through these pris ons. He would stay with me until the end, or better the new beginning.”

It’s when you are at the end of yourself that you discover God is just beginning. Obey His will; He will provide the way. As the hymn writer reminds us, “Fear not. I am with thee—O be not dismayed for I am thy God, I will still give thee aid. I’ll strengthen thee, help thee and cause thee to stand. Upheld by my gracious, omnipo tent hand.” That’s quite a promise. Don’t fail to claim it today.

WHEN WE HAVE NOTHING LEFT BUT GOD, WE WILL FIND HE IS ENOUGH.
