Read Philippians 1:21–24
Today’s Scripture: To me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21
James tells us that “a double-minded man [is] unstable in all he does”
(James 1:8). Or, to use the old Latin proverb: “When the pilot does not
know what port he is heading for, no wind is the right wind.” The reason
many Christians are upset by circumstances is because they do not cultivate “the single mind.” Paul expressed this attitude of single-hearted devotion to Christ thus: “To me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
Paul discussed his difficult circumstances and faced them honestly. But
his circumstances could not rob him of his joy because he was not living to enjoy circumstances; he was living to serve Jesus Christ. He was a man with purpose. He did not look at Christ through his circumstances; rather, he looked at his circumstances through Christ—and this viewpoint changed everything.
When we have the single mind, our circumstances work for us and not
against us.
