DEUTERONOMY 30:15-16 : See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I
command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments,
His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you
in the land which you go to possess.
Reportedly, employees in a Detroit business office found the following important notice on the bulletin
board: “The management regrets that it has come to their attention that workers dying on the job are
failing to fall down. This practice must stop, as it becomes impossible to distinguish between death
and the natural movement of the staff.”
While this memo was meant to be humorous in a business setting, it’s all too serious in the spiritual
setting. Moses reminded the people that if they wanted a real life, they needed to love the Lord, walk
in His ways and keep His commandments, statutes and judgments. Such a life God will bless and
make fruitful.
Many people walking our streets, shopping in our malls and working beside us are spiritually dead.
You may never know this simply by looking at them. They do all 62 the things that living people do,
but in that spiritual part of their being, which was designed to fellowship with God, they have no life.
They have a semblance of life, but they don’t have God’s life.
Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they
may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Jesus offers us a life that is
real. And not only real, but also abundant and full. Real life doesn’t come in finding yourself; it comes
in finding Him. Love Him, keep His commands and really live.
LIVING IS BIOLOGICAL; LIFE IS SPIRITUAL
