EXODUS 24:3, 7 : So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the
judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words which the Lord has
said we will do.”
Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that
the Lord has said we will do, and be obedient.”
A television news crew was on assignment in southern Florida in August 1992 filming the widespread
destruction of Hurricane Andrew. One scene showed a neighborhood with only one house remaining
on its foundation.
A reporter approached the owner and asked, “Why is your house the only one still standing?” The
man responded, “I built the house myself, and I built it according to the Florida state building code.
When the code called for 2′ x 6′ roof trusses, 1 used 2’ x 6′ trusses. I was told that a house built
according to code could withstand a hurricane and mine did. I suppose no one else followed the
code.”
When Moses shared God’s “code” of conduct with the people, their first response was an unqualified,
“All the words which the Lord has said we will do.” Unfortunately, like many of us today, they failed to
follow through on their commitment and the consequences were ultimately devastating.
God’s standards are not given to spoil our fun but to protect us from the storms of life. The key to
surviving life’s trials and experiencing maximum joy is to trust God and obey His Word. Remember
the words of the old hymn: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust
and obey.”
If Satan is tempting you to disobey God and His Word, remind yourself that every life has its storms.
The only way to survive them safely and joyfully is to make sure your life is built according to the
code.
A LIFE BUILT BY THE CODE WILL NEVER CRUMBLE DURING THE STORMS.
