Daily Strength Blog

Characteristically, little children lack discernment. A baby will put anything in his or her mouth. An immature believer will listen to any preacher on the radio or television and not be able to identify whether or not the sermon squares with Scripture.

Just as our physical bodies have senses without which we could not function, so the inner “spiritual man” has “spiritual senses.” As we feed on the Word of God and apply it in daily life, our inner “spiritual senses” get their exercise and become strong and keen. Paul called this process exercising ourselves “unto godliness” (1 Timothy 4:7-8).

Verse for today? “O taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).

Also read: Matthew 13:16; 1 Timothy 4:7-8; Ephesians 4:22-32.

Action assignment: Identify two or three areas in your life that reveal spiritual “flabbiness.” Focus on one area at a time and find out what the Bible says about your specific weaknesses. Thank God for being patient with you. Now be patient, but not lax, with yourself.
