The church is a miracle. No amount of skill, talents, or programs can make the church what it ought to be. Only God can do that. If each believer is depending on the grace of God, walking in the love of God, and participating in the fellowship of the Spirit, not walking in the flesh, then he will be part of the answer and not part of the problem. He will be a living benediction—to God and to others!

Our God is the “God of love and peace” (2 Corinthians 13:11). Can the outside world tell that from the way we live and the way we conduct the business of our churches? “Behold how they love one another!” was what the lost world said about the early church, but it has been a long time since the church has earned that kind of commendation.

Verse for today: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord Almighty” (Zechariah 4:6, NIV).

Consider: Matthew 16:13-18; John 3:5-8; Romans 1:8-12; Colossians 1:25-29.

Action assignment: Do you believe that the Holy Spirit can do things through you that are beyond your comprehension? Write down one truth of the Christian faith that you do not understand. Affirm that truth sincerely.

Now think about someone you do not understand or have a hard time “figuring out.” Go out of your way today to get in touch with that person. Pray for wisdom in knowing how to better understand and hence love that person.
