Not every believer is equipped to establish other Christians in the faith. Ideally, every Christian should be mature enough to help others grow in the Lord and learn to stand on their own two feet. Unfortunately, some Christians are like those described in Hebrews 5:11-14.

They have gone backward in their spiritual walk and have forgotten the basic truth of the Word. Instead of teaching others, they themselves need to be taught again. They are going through a second childhood spiritually.

What kind of person can help younger believers grow in the Lord? To begin with, he must be a Christian himself. We cannot lead another where we have not been ourselves, nor can we share that which we do not possess.

He must also be a true minister. The Greek word for minister is simply servant. And to help establish others, he must not be afraid to work. It is a demanding thing to establish new Christians. They have many problems and often do not grow as fast as we think they should. Teaching them requires love and patience.

Above all, one who disciples others must be a fellow worker with God, allowing God to work in and through him.

Don’t forget: “For we are laborers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9).

Consider: 1 Corinthians 4:2; Philippians 2:19-23.

Action assignment: Think of someone you could help grow as a Christian.-Consider the details of how you could work with that person. Meditate on the matter for at least a couple of minutes. Talk to God about it.
