Our minds control our bodies, and our wills control our minds. Many people think they can control their will by “willpower,” but they usually fail. This was Paul’s experience as recorded in Romans 7:15-21. It is only when we yield our wills to God that His power can take over and give us the willpower (and the “won’t” power) we need to be victorious Christians.

A disciplined prayer life is the method whereby a surrendered will can properly function. A sincere “Not my will, but Thy will be done” allows God to have His will in everything that involves us and our wills.

Verse for today: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2).

Also read: Psalm 40:8; Isaiah 1:18-20; 43:26; Matthew 26:39; John 5:30.

Action assignment: Jesus is our supreme example, and He prayed, “Not My will, but Thy will be done.” Prepare a list of the things in your life that you know represent resistance to God’s will. Ask God to help you surrender each one to His perfect will.
