The Canaan rest for Israel is a picture of the spiritual rest we find in Christ
when we surrender to Him. When we come to Christ by faith, we find
salvation rest. When we yield and learn of Him and obey Him by faith, we
enjoy submission rest. The first is peace with God; the second is the peace of
God. It is by believing that we enter into rest (Hebrews 4:3); it is by obeying
God by faith, and surrendering to His will, that the rest enters into us.
Verse for today: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by
prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”
(Philippians 4:6, NIV).
Further reading: Psalm 37:7; Matthew 11:28-30; John 14:27; Romans 5:1;
Hebrews 4:3.
Action assignment: List three to five things that upset or disturb you the
most or that give you some anxiety. Then, at the top of the page, write
“These Things Jesus Cares about More( than I Do.”
Turn these problems over to Him in prayer—one by one, visualizing yourself
placing them directly into His hands. Do this whenever you think about them
today and tomorrow and the next day.
