Many Christians have the mistaken idea that obedience to God’s will
produces “smooth sailing.” But this is not true. As God’s people, we are on
the sea in the midst of a storm. Yet Jesus Christ is in heaven making
intercession for us, He saw the disciples when they were in a storm and knew
their plight (Mark 6:48), just as He sees us and knows our needs.
If you knew that Christ was in the next room, praying for you, it would give
you new courage to endure the storm and do His will. He is not physically in
the next room, but He is in heaven interceding for you. He sees your need,
knows your fears, and is in control of the situation.
Often we feel that Jesus has deserted us when we are going through hard
times. In the Psalms, David complained that God seemed far away and
unconcerned. Yet he knew that God would ultimately rescue him. Even the
great Apostle Paul got into a situation that was so difficult he felt “burdened
excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life” (2
Corinthians 1:8, NASB).
Jesus always comes to us in the storms of life. He may not come when we
think He should, because He knows when we need Him the most.
Remember: “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and
through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through
the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee
(Isaiah 43:2).
Also claim these promises: Psalms 46:1; 50:15; 55:22; Isaiah 41:10.
Action assignment: Commit to memory one of the verses above. Quote it
when you face a “storm.” Thank the Lord for helping you through storms of
the past.
