As the Chief Shepherd, Christ alone can assess a person’s ministry and give him or her the
proper reward. Some who appear to be first may end up last when the Lord examines each
worker’s ministry.
Today a Christian worker may labor for many different kinds of rewards.
Some work hard to build personal empires; others strive for the applause of men; still others
seek promotion in their denominations. All these things will fade one day. The only reward
we ought to strive for is the “Well done!” of the Saviour and the unfading crown of glory that
goes with it.
What a joy it will be to place the crown at His feet and acknowledge that all we did was
because of His grace and power. We will have no desire for personal glory when we see Jesus
Christ face to face.
Verse to remember: “Behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man
according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:12).
Going further: Hebrews 13:20-21; 1 Peter 5:4; Revelation 4:10;Corinthians 15:10.
Action assignment: Examine your heart and ask yourself, “Am I working for rewards or for
Christ?” Ask God to give you insight into this matter. If you mean it, tell Him that you truly
want to work for Christ.
