Exodus 3:12a
So He said, “I will certainly be with you…”
Moses was afraid. Having lived in the palace of Pharaoh for 40 years, he knew well the results of raising the wrath of such a powerful man. Furthermore, he knew that his request to let God’s people go would not be a popular one. God’s solution for this fear and trepidation: His own presence. He assured Moses, “I will certainly be with you.”
Believers through the centuries have found God’s presence to be the source of courage and strength in the midst of other wise insurmountable challenges. When David Livingstone returned from Africa, a student at Glasgow University asked him, “What sustained you during those years in Africa?” Livingstone replied, “Shall I tell you what sustained me amidst the toil and hardship and loneliness of my life? It was the promise, ‘Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the ages.'”
Life can be very difficult. Fears press in from every side. Discouragement grabs us by the soul and drags us down. But still God is with us. His presence is assured. Henry van Dyke noted, “Happy and strong and brave shall we be—able to endure all things, and to do all things—if we believe that every day, every hour, every moment of our life is in God’s hands.”
If you are going through dark times today, know that God is with you. His grace will meet all your needs, and His strength will be sufficient for your every trial. There is never a moment when you are out of His sight or out of His thoughts.
WHEN YOU REACH THE END OF YOURSELF YOU WILL FIND IT’S ONLY THE BEGINNING OF GOD.
