Exodus 3:12b
. . And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain. ”
I do a lot of traveling both overseas and in the United States. Sometimes the trips get very lengthy and involved with multiple airplane connections and layovers. Thus it is reassuring to look at my travel itenerary and discover that I’m still on track. I may not have arrived yet but I can tell I’m head ed in the right direction.
Moses needed this kind of assurance as well. After all the struggles in Egypt, he needed to know he was still following God’s itenerary. Therefore God instructed him to bring the people out of Egypt and return to Mt. Sinai where he saw the burn ing bush. When they got to the mountain they were to “serve” Him. This was God’s proof that they were headed in the right direction and that He would lead them into the Promised Land.
Sometimes we too get discouraged in our spiritual journey and wonder if maybe we’ve lost God somehow. Could it be that we’re only fooling ourselves in thinking that He has a personal interest in us? Satan would certainly like for us to think that way.
That’s when we need to take a look at where we are spiritually. Are we further along than when we first began? Perhaps we aren’t where we would like to be in our walk with the Lord, but the fact that we aren’t where we used to be is proof that God is with us. The apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Don’t get discouraged that you haven’t arrived, just make sure you’re headed the right direction. God will take care of the rest; He always finishes what He starts.
IT’S NOT WHERE YOU ARE BUT WHERE YOU ARE GOING THAT COUNTS.
