Many people have the idea that God is not reigning today—that Satan is in
charge of things, and God will not rule until Jesus returns. I have heard
sincere teachers say, “In the past, Jesus was the Prophet. Today in heaven,
He is the Priest. When He returns, He will be the King.” But this is not Bible
doctrine.
There is a conflict in the world between the kingdom of God and the kingdom
of Satan. When a sinner trusts Christ, he is delivered “from the power of
darkness” and is “translated” into the kingdom of God’s dear Son.
The kingdom of darkness tries desperately to overcome the kingdom of light,
but God is the victor. Christ completely vanquished Satan and his hosts when
He died on the cross and rose again. As children in God’s family, and
subjects in God’s kingdom, we share in that victory!
It is worth noting that the kingdom idea is a very important one. As
Christians, we are prone to forget the kingship of our God, since we
emphasize the fatherhood of God and the fact that Jesus is the Saviour. But
He is King! Our Father is King!
Verse for today: “They shall speak of the glory of Thy kingdom and talk of
Thy power, to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the
glorious majesty of His kingdom. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and
Thy dominion endureth throughout all generations” (Psalm 145:11-13).

Action assignment: In your relationship to God, do you often think of Him
as a king? How do you relate to a king? Americans can relate to a president,
but have no experience relating to kings.
Ask God to show you how your relationship to Him will be enhanced as you
view Him as your king. List the qualities that a loyal subject should maintain
at all times, and subject yourself to the King of kings in a way you hadn’t
considered before.
