Paul’s favorite name for believers was brethren. He used it at least sixty times in his letters. Paul
saw the local church as a family. Each member was born again by the Spirit of God and
possessed God’s divine nature. All were part of God’s family.
It is tragic when believers neglect or ignore the local church. No family is perfect and no local
church is perfect; but without a family to protect him and provide for him, a child would suffer
and die. The child of God needs the church family if he is to grow, develop his gifts, and
effectively serve God.
God says: “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us
encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25, NIV).
Read: Psalm 122:1; 1 Peter 1:22-25.

Action assignment: Thank God for your local church. Mention ways that your church ministers
to you. Consider what more you can do for your church, and mentally list some things you can
and will do if you have the opportunity.
