EXODUS 10:21-22

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness

over the land of Egypt, darkness which may even be felt.” So Moses stretched out his hand

toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.

The Guiness Book of Records says that the greatest power failure in history struck seven

northeastern states in the United States and Ontario, Canada, on November 9-10, 1965.

Approximately 30 million people in an area of about 80,000 square miles were plunged into

darkness. Parts of New York City were without electricity for more than 13 hours.

But the Guiness record is a Johnny-come lately. In the days of Moses the whole land of Egypt

was immersed in a darkness so thick that it could be felt. That darkness lasted for 72 hours.

Yet even this pales to insignificance when compared to the spiritual darkness that envelops the

world today. At least 12 million people in the United States alone believe that their lives can be

influenced by the arrangement of the stars and planets.

Advertisements for psychic readings are commonplace on television. There are more spiritist

healers in Paris than medical doctors, priests and pastors combined. Europe is the only continent

where the church is growing more slowly than the population.

How wonderful to know that Christ can provide light, even in dark days like ours. The

illumination of His Word shows you how to live. The radiance of His love rescues you from

hopelessness. The glow of His joy keeps you from the darkness of despair. While the world

staggers on in darkness, as a Christian you can walk confidently in the light.

If you’re tired of living in the darkness, take a first step toward the Light. The Light of the world

is Jesus. He will be the Light Of your life, too, if you ask Him.

WHY STUMBLE IN THE DARK WHEN YOU CAN STROLL IN THE LIGHT?
